Apis mellifera Walk, performance at Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT (2014)

Apis mellifera walk was a site-specific performance enacted with two other artists while at the Vermont Studio Center. The performance was inspired by the morphometric test I run in the lab identifying honey bees to the subspecies level. In this test, I measure the twelve angles in the forewing where the veins intersect. For the performance, I extracted the testing method out of its usual context and enlarged the forewing of a honey bee onto the map of Johnson, Vermont. The twelve landmarks in the venation pattern were translated into gps coordinates, creating a path. In the performance, I followed the map, navigating through the landscape to locate and document each of the landmarks.
