The Wolfgang Laib Residency for Misplaced Drones

In a honey bee colony, drones do not forage for food or even feed themselves. I convinced artist Wolfgang Laib to set up an artist residency exclusively for drones to find meaningful employment.

Although integral to the honey bee colony, Drones or male bees do not forage for food or feed themselves. I set up an artist residency exclusively for drones so they could find meaningful work and engage within a community by gathering pollen. The residency hosts the drones during the winter months since the female worker bees kick most of the male bees out of the hive to conserve resources for the rest of the colony. The Wolfgang Residency for Misplaced Drones offers male bees a chance to be successful contributors, if not within the hive, but alongside Wolfgang Laib in the creation of artworks.
